Answers to your burning questions about Remix Challenge
How do I submit my remix if I use Soundation Studio?
If you use Soundation to produce your remix (props for that!), there are two ways you can submit your entry. You can publish the track right from the Studio by clicking “Post to Remix Competition” at the bottom of the Studio. Make sure to check “Publish my track to Remix Turn Up the Fire” before saving. Your song will be automatically published on your profile and submitted to the Remix Challenge. If you’ve published a remix on your profile but want to submit it to the challenge later,
How do I submit my remix if I use other software?
If you produce your remix elsewhere, go to the Remix Challenge group and click “Post Remix”. Upload your song by clicking “Upload from Disc” and drop the file in the window. Once you click “Submit”, your song will be submitted to the Remix Challenge and published on your profile automatically.
How many tracks can I submit?
You can submit a maximum of two tracks to the Remix Challenge, so narrow down to your best works. :)
Can I use any software to remix?
Correct! For this challenge we don’t set any limitations regarding what software or hardware you use to produce the remix. We want everyone to be able to participate; if you’re more familiar with another DAW, we won’t get mad! Of course, we strongly encourage you to use Soundation, since it’s awesome.
What is the best device and browser to use for Soundation Studio?
Soundation is optimized to run on the latest version of Chrome, so it’s not currently possible to use our Studio on other browsers like Firefox and Edge. Note also that Soundation Studio is not yet available as a mobile app, so to ensure the best experience, please use a desktop computer instead of a mobile or tablet. In other words, all you need is a latest version of Chrome browser on your desktop computer, and everything is good to go.
What criteria will the jury judge on?
A jury consisting of representants from BMG and Soundation will pick a winner based on quality, creativity and hype (listening numbers). Increase your listening numbers by sharing the Soundation link to your friends, family and fans!
Will the track with the most play counts win?
Nope. While the play counts help bring our attention to tracks people love, the jury will take quality and creativity into account as well. Don’t worry if your track isn’t up there on the chart, you’re still in the running to be the winning producer!
Can I sell the remix commercially if I win the challenge?
A winning track will be released by BMG, which means you’ll register your work with/transfer ownership to a renowned publisher in exchange for their assistance to promote your remix. Since materials offered for the remix are copyrighted materials from BMG, uploading and selling the remix commercially is not possible. You can however share a link to your track page on Soundation or share any promotional materials from BMG as much as your heart desires because, well, who wouldn’t want to!?
Can I share or sell a remix I submit to the challenge commercially?
Since all audio and instrument tracks for the Remix Challenge are copyrighted materials from BMG, songs made using these materials are considered copyrighted materials from BMG as well. In other words, please refrain from uploading or selling a remix created for this competition commercially to avoid copyright infringement. However, it is absolutely okay to post a link on your social media to your track page on Soundation, if you want to share your work with friends and families.
If I’m already a Premium Soundation user, what will I get as a prize instead?
In that case, you can pick any three items you want on our sound shop; we’ve got lots of good stuff over there! Or if you’re feeling generous, you can give away the Premium subscription to your BFF. Anything for our Premium user.
What’s the deal for the winning producer?
The exact agreement in terms of producer fee and royalty rate for the remix will be proposed to the winner by BMG.
What exactly is an A&R session?
The A&R session is a creative meeting (by Skype, if you’re not in Stockholm) with one of BMG’s A&Rs. Apart from discussing your remix contribution, you’ll also be able to play other songs from your catalog in order to get feedback and advice, along with asking any questions on how to develop your career. BMG’s mission is to find new talent, so this is an exclusive opportunity for you to show them what you’ve got and get on their radar for future remix projects, songwriting sessions, songwriti
Is this a new series of Soundation challenges, or is it a one-off contest?
Good question! This Remix Challenge is a special contest from us in collaboration with BMG. Our goal is to continue doing challenges with them, as well as with other partners, but it won’t be on a monthly basis like all other challenges we currently host on Soundation. Make sure to follow the Remix group so you’re the first to know next time we launch a new challenge!
